Dairy Bars – The First Sign of Summer

A sure sign of summer along the North Cape Coastal Drive are the lines of cars at the dairy bars. Islanders especially love their soft-serve ice cream. These brightly coloured roadside stands are a great place to stop for a tasty lunch and sweet treat.

These sweet canteens offer playful takes on the delicious vanilla and chocolate twist. You’re in for a treat when you try flavours like the “Mudslide” and the “Cardinal Rule.” Be sure not to miss variations like the “Twisted Sister.” They offer up local seasonal deliciousness too – Wild Blueberry Cheesecake Sundae anybody?

Take a dairy bar tour, and you’ll cover the whole of our coastal area from Summerside, St. Eleanors and Miscouche through Richmond, Ellerslie, O’Leary and Montrose. All the way up to Tignish Run and North Cape, you’ll find a sweet local dairy bar serving soft-serve ice cream and each one beckons you with its own special take on the twisted dip. As you meander along the route, be sure to stop into the local attractions, like The Bottle Houses and the Stompin’ Tom Center.
