Rainy Day Activities

Our mild and breezy summer days sometimes give way to gentle rains or gusty nor’westers.  You may love the wild winds and smells of the sea in the air, but if you’re looking to get out of the rain, we’ve got you covered. Try some of our intriguing rainy day activities. Get a reviving cuppa at one of our coffee or tea shops. Try your hand at one of our artisanal workshops. Enjoy some shopping and find that perfect keepsake at one of our many handcraft shops or artist’s studios. Make some time to catch a show – we have plenty to entertain you.

Cultural activities abound around the region. You might like to listen to some bagpipe music and watch some Highland dancing, or attend one of the local ceilidhs. Check out our calendar of Festivals and Events to see what’s happening today.

Immerse yourself in our history at one of the museums and interpretive centers that dot the region. We have everything from fishing and shipbuilding museums to historical churches and wind technologies interpretive centers.

Maybe you’d like to create your own piece of Island art at a workshop or studio – we have everything from metalsmithing to soap-making and bunny wool art.

The Hardy’s Channel / Little Channel Lighthouse is located at the end of a long private road, so the best public views of the lighthouse are from across the inlet from Howard’s Cove Seafood Limited.

Take Route # 173 North from Freeland and then turn left onto Smith Road from where a distant, partial view of the lighthouse is possible. You might find a fisherman willing to give you a water view!
