Taste the Coast

Prince Edward Island is Canada’s Food Island.  Our celebrated Malpeque Oyster is served in restaurants across Canada,  and from North America to Europe, earning us the nickname Canadian Oyster Coast.

Whether your preference is for oysters, lobster, clams, mussels or fresh fish – we have it. The kitchens of the North Cape Coastal Drive deliver local culinary experiences in abundance. Our award-winning cheeses, grass-fed beef, organic greens and, of course, lobsters and oysters, are available all around the coast.

Follow Route 12, North Cape Coastal Touring Region’s northern coastal drive, from Summerside to Tyne Valley, Lennox Island, Alberton and Tignish. All along this route you will find culinary jewels representing our historical cuisines, from British to Celtic and Mi’kmaq Fare.

On your return trip, follow Routes 14 and 11 back along our southern shore. From Miminegash to O’Leary, Abrams Village to Miscouche you’ll find cuisines from Acadian fare to delicious seaweed pie – sure to delight you.

Innovation and fun abound. Come try food trucks serving up gourmet street food or visit a trendy tasting-menu restaurant. Enjoy the special experience of an organically-grown, four-course meal cooked completely on a wood stove.

Celebrate our Local Foods

You can taste our local food all through the seasons. In April, come explore our  Burger Love promotion. Local restaurants compete to serve up the  tastiest Island beef creations. May is the start of PEI’s lobster season.  In June and July, you’re sure to enjoy the juiciness of  local festivals that celebrate the fresh strawberry crop.  Make a pit stop at a road stand  that sells fresh-picked berries – best eaten warm and luscious right from the container.  In August, help us celebrate the blueberry at Green Park’s Yeo House.

Finally, in September,  you can’t help but be inspired during our month-long Fall Flavours Festival.  All across the Island we celebrate our bountiful harvest through the innovation of  local and celebrity chefs. Come be our guest!
