Air Force Heritage Park

Explore Prince Edward Island’s proud aviation legacy at Air Force Heritage Park, located at the entrance to Slemon Park, the former site of RCAF Station / CFB Summerside.

This outdoor display features three restored military aircraft that once served with distinction in Canada's air force:

  • CP-107 Argus 739 – A long-range maritime patrol aircraft that served anti-submarine operations and famously participated in NATO exercises in Italy.

  • CP-121 Tracker 131 – Originally designed for aircraft carrier operations, this Canadian-built aircraft carried out anti-shipping patrols, fisheries surveillance, and search & rescue.

  • CF-101B Voodoo 101037 – A supersonic interceptor used during the Cold War as part of North American air defence operations.

The park is a tribute to the men and women—military and civilian—who served at the base from its early RCAF days in the 1940s through to its closure in 1991. Visitors can stroll the landscaped grounds, view interpretive signage, and learn about the base’s role in NATO training, maritime patrol, and search and rescue.

A highlight of the site is the Walk of Honour, a commemorative path lined with engraved stones honoring those who served at the base or contributed to Canada’s military and peacekeeping efforts.

Managed by the Aviation Heritage Society of PEI, the park continues to be a place of reflection, learning, and community pride—preserving the aviation history that helped shape Summerside’s identity.
