MacNaught History Centre & Archives

Uncover your Island roots at the MacNaught History Centre and Archives, a year-round research hub for genealogy and local history in Summerside. Housed in a beautifully restored 1887 heritage home, MacNaught offers visitors access to extensive Prince Edward Island genealogical resources, historic newspapers on microfilm, census records, gravestone transcriptions, and a comprehensive reference library.

Expert staff are available to guide you through your family history or introduce you to the PEI Ancestry website—an online platform with searchable databases curated by Wyatt Heritage Properties. Whether you’re beginning your research or filling in the final branches of your family tree, MacNaught is a valuable stop for heritage enthusiasts and curious travelers alike.

The Centre also features a rotating art gallery and a small museum space, home to unique artifacts including Sir John A. Macdonald’s gold pocket watch and historic portraits by local artist John Gothard Baker.

Open Tuesday to Saturday, 10 AM to 4 PM, year-round.
Research appointments are recommended and can be made by calling 902-432-1332.
