St. Simon & St. Jude Parish Church

St. Simon & St. Jude Parish Church, affectionately known as Tignish Church, is one of the most iconic landmarks in Western Prince Edward Island. Towering at 185 feet and visible for miles across land and sea, this majestic High Gothic brick church is the largest church on the Island and the spiritual heart of the Tignish community.

Constructed in the mid-1800s from local materials and designed by famed architect Patrick Charles Keely, the church is a remarkable example of ecclesiastical craftsmanship. Inside, visitors will find stained glass windows by Morgan and Brothers of New York, a Louis Mitchell pipe organ, and richly painted religious scenes with life-sized statues crafted by Montreal artist F. Meloche.

Built with the dedication of local parishioners—many of whom contributed to making its 500,000 bricks—the church has stood as a beacon of faith and community for generations. Beyond its architectural significance, St. Simon & St. Jude continues to serve as an active place of worship and a symbol of the enduring Acadian and Irish heritage in the region.
