Summerside Interpretive Centre and PEI Fox Museum

Located inside the historic 1911 Armoury building, the PEI Fox Museum tells the remarkable story of how Prince Edward Island became the centre of the global silver fox fur industry. Through artifacts, photos, and personal stories, visitors can explore how local breeders helped turn a small Island innovation into a world-renowned export.

The Summerside Interpretive Centre, located in the same building, features six self-guided digital exhibits that highlight Summerside’s local history, military roots, community life, and cultural milestones. Visitors can explore each exhibit at their own pace, choosing how much detail to dive into.

The beautifully restored Armoury served as a militia training facility, recruitment centre, and community hub for decades. Today, it continues to serve the public as a heritage site and storytelling space, with exhibits that rotate throughout the year.

The museum is open seasonally, and admission is free or by donation. Guided group visits may be booked in advance by calling 902-432-1332.

A must-visit for history lovers and anyone curious about PEI’s unique role in global trade and local community life.
