The Beat of the Drum

Does the sound of the drum stir something deep within you? In this powerful, hands-on workshop, you’re invited to connect with the traditions of the Mi’kmaq people through the creation of your own moose hide hand drum. Held on Lennox Island and guided by a skilled Indigenous artisan and knowledge keeper, this experience goes far beyond craft — it’s a journey into culture, meaning, and memory.

As you shape and weave your drum, you’ll learn about its deep spiritual role in Mi’kmaq culture. The drum is more than an instrument — it is a vessel of tradition, community, and connection. Throughout the session, your guide will share teachings about the drum’s purpose, its ceremonial uses, and the importance of carrying these traditions forward with respect and care.
